Bicultural Regional Course in Renewable Energies

Project description

Title: Bicultural Regional Course in Renewable Energies
Commissioned by: German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Country: Egypt
Lead executing agency: Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR)
Overall term: 2008 to 2013

Context

The effectiveness of development policy measures depends in great measure on each party’s understanding of the other partner’s cultural context. Study courses that impart linguistic skills and intercultural competence, in addition to purely professional expertise, are still not found in Arab regions. What is needed here is training of German and Arab experts to fill the gaps in – for example – the area of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

Objective

Training for Arab and German experts in a masters degree course in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for the MENA Region is conducted in line with needs and with international standards.

Approach

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ supports the formation of a bicultural postgraduate course in the area of renewable energies and energy efficiency to be offered at universities in Cairo and Kassel. The project is conducted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The first year students begin their studies in 2009.
