Priority areas in the Palestinian TerritoriesGTZ works with projects and programmes that are aligned with the development and reform programmes of the Palestinian Territories and Palestinian Authority, and are closely coordinated with other donors. By agreement between the German and Palestinian governments, the following three priority areas were adopted:
Water, sanitation and waste disposalGerman-Palestinian cooperation supports the development of an integrated water and waste disposal system in a conflict area. In terms of water supply it focuses on establishing a sustainable supply of drinking water to the Palestinian population. In the field of sanitation and waste disposal its focus is on developing and implementing economically and ecologically viable solutions for sewage disposal and treatment. In the interest of public health and to conserve scarce water resources, effective waste management is given high priority.
Economic reform and employmentGerman-Palestinian cooperation supports economic and employment promotion. It aims to achieve an increase in economic performance that will have a positive effect on employment and in turn help to reduce poverty. In the field of economic reform and development of the market system (WiRAM) GTZ concentrates on vocational training, the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises, economic policy and law. Institutional promotionGerman-Palestinian cooperation supports the development of effective public and civil society organisations. The aim is to create a democratic, citizen-friendly governance system with transparent, accountable institutions that safeguard the provision of important public services. |
