Water resources and water management

Sustainable management of the water resources of the River Nile is a matter of utmost importance in Egypt. About 84 percent of the available water resources are used for irrigated agriculture. In recent decades population growth and increasing industrialisation have led to a general increase in the demand for water, while a decrease in the water resources available for irrigated agriculture is becoming apparent.
