Priority areas in Colombia

In the government negotiations in 2001, the following priority areas were agreed for the partner country Colombia:

Peace development and crisis prevention

In the priority area “Peace development and crisis prevention” German-Colombian Technical Cooperation focuses on three complementary fields: decentralisation and communal development, supporting civil society actors to achieve peaceful coexistence and greater citizens' participation, and promoting the rule of law and protecting human rights. These approaches aim at contributing to a reduction in the causes of conflict, to peaceful conflict resolution and to the development of peace in Colombia.

Environmental policy, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources

In the priority area “Environmental policy, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources” the GTZ programme is supporting the strengthening of the political environmental system. The goal is the sustainable and participatory utilisation of natural resources, such as water, land, forest and biodiversity. This priority area is closely connected to the priority area “peace development and crisis prevention”. Solving environmental, access and distributional conflicts will help mitigate the social and economic factors that currently exacerbate conflicts.
