One of the activities of GTZ International Services (GTZ IS) in Guatemala involves a supra-regional project. On behalf of the European Commission, we are backing the formation of a Central American Customs Union, covering Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The Customs Union aims to promote economic integration and growth in the Central American region.

Also on behalf of the European Commission, we are advising and supporting the Guatemalan Ministry of Economics. The aim is to raise the competitive capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through targeted financial and non-financial support services, thus giving SMEs better access to financial services and to the market in general while promoting their integration in international markets.
