Partnerships and alliances

Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM)
In cooperation with the German Federal Employment Agency, GIZ places qualified technical experts and managers with Ecuadorian employers through their joint operation, CIM.

These employers include national associations of regional authorities, the Quito municipal authorities and the Provincial Government of Loja as well as the Charles Darwin Foundation, the German-Ecuadorian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Other partnerships and alliances
GIZ works closely with other German and European organisations to harmonise development cooperation and ensure that projects in Ecuador reinforce each other and increase each other's effectiveness.

Cooperation with KfW Entwicklungsbank is particularly important in the interests of ensuring joined-up development cooperation. Some key collaborative efforts include working to strengthen the internationally significant Gran Sumaco Biosphere Reserve and the National System of Protected Areas as well as the Environmentally-Friendly Management of the Water Catchment Areas in Tungurahua and Community Development projects.

Close cooperative relationships also exist with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the United Nations and other donors. Within the framework of delegated cooperation, GIZ works on behalf of the European Commission to promote security and human rights in the northern border area of Ecuador.

GIZ also implements measures that are financed by non-governmental organisations, for example the GEO schützt den Regenwald e.V. initiative (launched by the German popular science magazine GEO).

GIZ has actively and successfully sought to establish numerous cooperation arrangements with Ecuadorian and European companies (public-private partnerships or PPPs). These focus in particular on the certified production of commodities such as coffee, cocoa, timber and fruit, and on strengthening value chains.
