Partnerships and alliancesCentre for International Migration and Development (CIM) These employers include national associations of regional authorities, the Quito municipal authorities and the Provincial Government of Loja as well as the Charles Darwin Foundation, the German-Ecuadorian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Other partnerships and alliances Cooperation with KfW Entwicklungsbank is particularly important in the interests of ensuring joined-up development cooperation. Some key collaborative efforts include working to strengthen the internationally significant Gran Sumaco Biosphere Reserve and the National System of Protected Areas as well as the Environmentally-Friendly Management of the Water Catchment Areas in Tungurahua and Community Development projects. Close cooperative relationships also exist with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the United Nations and other donors. Within the framework of delegated cooperation, GIZ works on behalf of the European Commission to promote security and human rights in the northern border area of Ecuador. GIZ also implements measures that are financed by non-governmental organisations, for example the GEO schützt den Regenwald e.V. initiative (launched by the German popular science magazine GEO). GIZ has actively and successfully sought to establish numerous cooperation arrangements with Ecuadorian and European companies (public-private partnerships or PPPs).
