Bulgaria joined the European Union on 1 January 2007. Development cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and Bulgaria was concluded at the end of 2010.

With its cross-sectoral programmes and projects in these fields, GTZ is making significant, stability-promoting contributions towards the region’s economic integration efforts. Networking the programmes and projects ensures that they have as strong a development impact as possible.

GTZ has been operating a coordination office in Sofia since early 1999.
