In terms of its economy, Bosnia and Herzegovina has now embarked on a two-fold campaign: to overcome the aftermath of the civil war in the 1990s and to make the transition from a state-run to a free-market economy. To help Bosnia and Herzegovina successfully rise to these challenges, GTZ International Services (GTZ IS) is helping to promote the economy and employment – primarily in the agricultural sector. On behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), we are supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as cooperatives, farming groups and self-help organisations in the fields of production, processing and marketing. Our key focus here is on the disadvantaged, i.e. returning refugees, rural youth and women.

Furthermore, through to November 2003, we also helped implement an EU-financed project in Bosnia and Herzegovina targeting the establishment of stable administrative structures.
