The Priority areas in Nepal

The priority areas are integrated in the four pillars of the Nepalese Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS): broad-based economic growth, human development, social inclusion, and governance. GTZ cooperates with bilateral and multilateral donors and agencies.

Local self-governance and civil society

Support is given for government, civil society and democratic self-administration, and for the participation of local people in direct poverty reduction measures. Special emphasis is placed on conflict reduction measures and ensuring access to services at the local level for marginalised population groups. An economic development programme is also as part of this priority area.

Renewable energy

Cooperation here is focused on developing the market for small hydropower promotion, including the increased use of small hydropower plants as a reliable power supply in rural areas.

Health and family planning

GTZ provides advice on health policy and supports health management at the local level. Medical services are being improved through training sessions for the staff at health centres. Particular focus is placed on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.
Apart from these the priority areas, GTZ also provides support for rehabilitation and reconstruction in Rolpa and Rukum and carries out activities to enhance the peace process.
