GTZ International Services in ChadGTZ International Services (GTZ IS) is supporting the Government of Chad in optimising health care in two of the country’s regions. We have been at work in Kanem since 2001 on behalf of the World Bank, and in the Lac region since 2005 for the French governmental development organisation Agence Française de Développement (AFD). The World Bank is continuing to finance two education projects in Chad: we contribute our expertise to the creation of participatory structures and the establishment of mother-tongue teaching in the schools. In addition, we are working in cooperation with the ESSO petroleum company on behalf of communities affected by the construction of an underground oil pipeline: we carry out funds-financed development projects, such as the construction of school buildings, wells and markets, intended to compensate people adversely affected by the pipeline.
