ObjectiveThe general health status of all people living in Tanzania has improved, and special consideration is given to sections of the population that face particular risks and disadvantages. ApproachThe Tanzanian–German Programme to Support Health was launched in 2003, with the involvement of different German organisations. The former GTZ, German Development Service (DED) and Inwent Capacity Building International Germany have since merged to form GIZ, which now continues to collaborate with KfW Entwicklungsbank and the Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM). In turn, these partners work closely with a range of Tanzanian governmental and non-governmental institutions, in particular the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Prime Minister's Office Regional Administration and Local Government, the Tanzania Commission for AIDS, the Christian Social Services Commission, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (especially its School of Public Health and Social Sciences), and the regional secretariats of Tanga, Lindi, Mtwara and Mbeya regions.
