Priority areas in MauritaniaDemocratisation and good governanceThe objective of the programme in the priority area good governance is that the government and public administration orientate their activities at all levels more strongly to the needs of the citizens. This should be achieved by increasing transparency, enhancing capacities, and anchoring the practice of accountability within the public service and administration. To promote good governance, GIZ is helping the treasury department of the Mauritanian Ministry of Finance, the Mauritanian national court of auditors, and other important players in the control of public finances and the governance of raw materials, as well as municipalities, communities and public servants and officials, to carry out their tasks effectively. It is doing this on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In strengthening good governance, structures are created that integrate marginalised population groups sustainably into political processes. Through harmonised and needs-oriented training for community officials, the interests of women are to be integrated into policies that are targeted at the common good, and social and legal position of women will be strengthened (gender policy). The programme supports the formulation and implementation of a coherent policy on poverty reduction. |
