Access to safe drinking water is a basic need. Water-induced diseases are widespread and are constantly damaging human health and impairing peoples' ability to work. As a result of the political priority the Government has given to the water supply, half the population now has access to safe drinking water.

The long-standing commitment of German Financial Cooperation to developing the water supply in rural areas and small towns is supplemented by the technical cooperation project “Advisory services to the national water authority (DNH)”. In this project, GTZ is promoting the implementation and further development of strategies in the water sector and the organisational development of the water authorities in the context of decentralisation.
