Priority areas in MaliAgricultureIn this priority area, GTZ supports development in the arid Timbuktu region where the civil war was fought. Here, it concentrates above all on improving irrigation agriculture along the Niger River, thus safeguarding the livelihoods of a large part of the local population. The country is threatened by permanent soil exhaustion and desertification. DecentralisationThe aim in this priority area is to qualify existing and newly founded communities so that they can run the local administration themselves for the benefit of the population. GTZ also promotes the national decentralisation policy in five regions and supports, among other things, the development and implementation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) and the establishment of decentralised financial institutions. WaterGTZ promotes the implementation and further development of Mali’s water sector strategies. It also provides advice on the organisational structure of the water authority within the framework of decentralisation. |
