Since 1975, GTZ has been working in Kenya on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The German and Kenyan governments have agreed to cooperate in the following priority areas:
- reform of the water sector with concurrent advisory services for government, institutions, and water and wastewater utilities in medium-sized cities. Sustainable access of the urban poor to safe drinking water and increasing basic sanitation and improvement of the water resource management.
- development of the health sector, by improving access to and demand for affordable and good quality health services, introduction of a system of financing, the development and implementation of quality standards and the mainstreaming of gender and human rights principles in the health reform process as well as reduction of Gender based Violence (GBV), including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
- private sector promotion in agriculture supports small and medium-scale enterprises in selected agricultural value chains to make better use of their market potential. Additionally PSDA promotes environment-friendly technologies, and reforms in the legal and policy framework.
In addition, GTZ supports the efforts of the government, civil society and private sector in the following projects:
