Sustainable use of natural resources

Due to the rich diversity of species, Cameroon’s extensive forests of are of economic and global ecological importance. However, excessive logging and increasing exploitation by the population are endangering this important resource. The main problems are deficits in terms of planning and controlling use of forest ressources. The strategy applied here is based on existing reform processes within the framework of the national forestry programme (Programme Sectoriel Forêts-Environnement/PSFE).

Promoting the sustainable management of forest resources and protecting forest eco-systems is intended to help improve the local population’s living conditions and achieve sustainable development for Cameroon. This is to be done by pursuing a vertical approach, providing policy advice at national level and implementing the intended reforms at local and province level. By forging a close link between instruments within the framework of a joint German development coorperation programme for sustainable resource management, the measures will have the greatest possible impact.
