In Ghana, GIZ’s projects and programmes are linked by an overarching concept. The German and Ghanaian Governments agreed that their development cooperation should concentrate on the priority areas of agriculture, sustainable economic development and good governance. These priority areas are intended to support Ghana’s Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy and are also coordinated with the work of other development partners.
Agriculture
This German-Ghanaian programme supports agricultural producers and other actors in the field of food processing and trade. It helps them to improve their competitiveness in national, regional, and international markets, and should contribute significantly to the reduction of poverty among the rural population.
Sustainable economic development
Cooperation in this priority area is intended to strengthen the competitiveness of Ghanaian private businesses at national and international levels. Measures include reforms to economic policy and the creation of a favourable business and investment climate. The programme also promotes improved access to financial and business services, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Good governance
Here, the aim of the cooperation is to enhance citizens' personal, economic and legal scope for interaction. This is to be achieved by improving access to public services and providing more opportunities for people to participate in public decision making with respect to poverty reduction.
