Sector Network Rural Development Africa
The Sector Network Rural Development Africa (SNRD) was launched in 1995 in Lesotho. SNRD covers all aspects related to rural development and sustainable management of natural resources in Africa. In addition, rural development issues are linked to broader aspects of economic development, as well as good governance processes. SNRD currently connects over 33 projects and programmes from 20 African countries. The sector network links not only GIZ-supported rural development projects in Africa, but it seeks working relations to other development institutions, as well. SNRD-Africa is headed by a chairperson (Reimund Hoffmann, Kenia), three deputies (Annemarie Matthess, Ghana; Petra Jacobi, Nigeria and Andrea Wetzer, Niger), who forms together with the working groups speakers, the “tandem partner” at GIZ head office (Marlis Lindecke and Ute Böttcher) and the contact person of the GIZ Africa Division (Michael-Wolf Dio), a steering committee. The most important constituents of the network are the annual meeting giving strategic direction for SNRD’s focus of work, and the working groups, which can be described as ‘the heart and soul’ of the network’s conceptual and strategic work.
