Priority areas in Burkina FasoIn Burkina Faso, GTZ works in three thematic priority areas and in two different programmes outside these priority areas. The macroeconomic consulting programme with the Ministry of Economy and Finance provides advice at policy level regarding the implementation of the country’s Poverty Reduction Strategy. A programme on the theme of human rights and sexual health contributes towards enabling women, men and young people to realise their basic rights and potential in the area of sexual and reproductive health and to protect them both from discrimination and traditional practices that violate human rights as well as from child trafficking and child labour. Agriculture and sustainable resource managementA programme on this theme has been running since April 2004 and is focused on two objectives: creating and guaranteeing a monetary income for agricultural producers and achieving food security. The programme takes a market-based approach and assumes that establishing a regular income for smallholders is the most promising way of escaping poverty. Promoting decentralisation and local administrative developmentA programme on this theme has been running since January 2005 and operates at three levels: reform management (policy advice), regional planning and cooperation (meso level), building the capacity of local structures of self-administration and fostering municipalities (micro level). WaterThe programme on this issue is focused on the themes of water supply, disposal of faecal matter and sewage, and water resources management. |
