Sub-Saharan Africa
GTZ is operating primarily on behalf of the Federal Development Ministry (BMZ) in sub-Saharan Africa, where 556 seconded and 4,865 national staff members are delivering support to its local partners in 41 countries. Apart from BMZ, GTZ is increasingly being contracted to work in Africa by other German Ministries. On behalf of the Federal Foreign Office, for example, it is operating in the fields of governance, as well as peace and security, while under a contract awarded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) it is dealing with energy and climate issues. Projects are often suited to supporting interministerial goals. In South Africa GTZ is operating on behalf of both BMZ and BMU in the newly formed priority area ‘climate and energy’. (As of 31 December 2008). Further information on GTZ's work in individual countries: |
