Priority areas in Senegal

GTZ's work builds on Senegal's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). It focuses on the three priority areas of German-Senegalese development cooperation:

Support for decentralisation and local development, taking into account the need to build peace in the Casamance

Senegalese-German cooperation helps improve living conditions in the municipalities of the Casamance region, and puts in place the foundations on which to build sustainable local economic development. Our work in the Casamance focuses on conflict management and transformation, and to this end primarily embraces measures to promote good governance and local self-government.

Sustainable economic development

GTZ helps promote competitive and growth-oriented small and medium-sized businesses as well as developing an efficient microfinance system, to meet the key preconditions for pro-poor growth.

Renewable energies and energy efficiency

GTZ is helping private and public-sector stakeholders cope with the shortages of fuelwood by introducing low-energy stoves and participatory forest management. We work with our partners to provide people in rural areas with electricity, using renewable energies and advocating greater energy efficiency.
