GTZ is active in 16 countries in Asia, where 285 seconded and 2,026 national staff are delivering support to its local partners.

Its main client in the region is the German Federal Development Ministry (BMZ). For about a decade GTZ has also been operating in Asia on behalf of various national and international organisations, as well as national governments, primarily in the fields of vocational training, health and renewable energies. It is also operating in China within the scope of the Climate Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU).
