BrusselsThe European Union is of great importance for GIZ in two distinct ways. Firstly, European Union objectives and regulations increasingly influence the national policies of its member states. They thus also affect German policies on development, the environment and foreign policy. Secondly, the Directorates-General of the European Commission in Brussels are important clients for GIZ. For this reason, GIZ’s Brussels presence consists of two complementary work units. GIZ Representation in Brussels is the contact point within the company for issues relating to European development cooperation. The Brussels Office of GIZ International Services handles these contacts, and also manages the project portfolio of GIZ in Brussels. It represents GIZ in the European Network of Implementing Development Agencies (EUNIDA) and coordinates cooperation with the other European member organisations. EUNIDA’s role is to assist the European Commission in effective implementation and efficient administration of development cooperation programmes. GIZ Representation and the GIZ IS Brussels Office maintain close contact with the EU institutions and provide a platform for GIZ expertise in Brussels.
