An English-language publication on sustainability has been jointly produced by GTZ and the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE). 

What is special about this book is that the point of view of the Council, which serves as a direct consultant to the German Government, is brought together with the international viewpoint of GTZ. Sustainability – the Unfinished Business. Challenges in International Cooperation contains essays on various aspects of sustainability by members of the Council and GTZ experts.

Among the authors are Dr Volker Hauff, Chairman of the Council, his deputy Prof. Klaus Töpfer, and GTZ Managing Director Dr Bernd Eisenblätter.
In four chapters, the book takes up the subjects ‘Planet’, ‘People’, ‘Prosperity’ and ‘Proof’ and includes contributions on subjects such as public-private partnership, emissions trading, standards, biodiversity and fragile states, as well as experience made with the Brundtlandt Report, sustainable goods, corporate social responsibility and the political role of the German Council for Sustainable Development.

GTZ puts a high premium on cooperation with the Council. In 2006, GTZ chose sustainable development as its corporate guiding principle. The organisation consistently attempts to live the concept of sustainability itself and to breathe new life into it at every opportunity. GTZ has found in the German Council for Sustainable Development a valuable partner to exchange ideas and concepts about sustainability.
