Projects

Albania: The technical and vocational education and training system is only geared marginally to the labour market. Graduates have difficulties in finding jobs. The project’s objective is for graduates of the vocational college in Durres to have qualifications being sought in the labour market. More about the project:
Economic Development and Employment Promotion Programme

Ethiopia: The Engineering Capacity Development Program (ECBP) helps the private sector assume its role as the driving force behind Ethiopia’s development. Technical and vocational education and training is responsible for increasing the number of well-trained candidates for employment. To achieve this, the whole range of technical and vocational education and training all the way up to university level will be reformed. More about the project:
Engineering Capacity Building Programme (ECBP)

Botswana: To reduce dependency on mining, a strategy of economic diversification was pursued. The technical and vocational education and training system was also fundamentally redesigned. The project, which ended in 2007, helped to prepare the necessary legal groundwork and to rebuild the coordinating authority, BOTA. More about the project:

China: For a long time, women benefited the least from economic reform and privatisation in China. By expanding labour market policy and establishing targetgroup-oriented advisory methods, the project, completed in 2006, contributed to substantially increasing the number of women placed in employment.

Indonesia: A network of public and private institutes is learning to view their work more in terms of serving the economy, thus orienting it to economic needs and successfully marketing the various advisory and training services. More about the project:
Indonesian-German Institute (IGI)

Kosovo: GIZ (former GTZ) advises the Kosovo government in creating a needs-oriented technical and vocational education and training system in conformity with European standards. A major portion of the work lies in promoting the reform process in which technical and vocational education and training in Kosovo has found itself since fighting stopped in addition to giving the support needed to reestablish viable governmental and social structures. More about the project:
Renewal of basic and continuing vocational training

Palestinian Territories: Here strategies have been adopted in order to develop human resources and promote sustainable employment. They form a bridge connecting technical and vocational education and training with functioning labour markets and the private sector. They take into account the fragile political and social situation and allow flexibility for entries to and transfers between training and employment.  More about the project:
Programme to Promote Vocational Training and the Labour Market in the Palestinian Territories

Sri Lanka: After the tsunami, there were too few skilled construction workers and not enough experts to repair and maintain machines and other equipment. The project links the build-up of local capacities for needs-oriented technical and vocational education and training with its decentralisation. More about the project:
Rehabilitation and Modernisation of Vocational Training Institutions in Support of the Reconstruction Efforts

Uzbekistan: Technical and vocational education and training cooperation in Uzbekistan is an indication of information and communication technology (ICT). The introduction of more needs-driven and practice-oriented initial and further training supports modernisation and growth in the service-providing sector. More about the project:
Vocational Training in the Information and Technology Sector
