Programme for the Promotion of Industrial Services and Employment, Component: Promotion of Technology Centres

Project description

Title: Programme for the Promotion of Industrial Services and Employment, Component: Promotion of Technology Centres
Commissioned by: Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)
Country: India
Lead executing agency: Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Small Scale Industries
Overall term: January 2005 to December 2008

Context

India’s generally inflexible, bureaucratic educational system assigns insufficient importance to the practical relevance of training and lags behind technological progress. Companies have too few qualified personnel at their disposal.  Technology-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially in the fields of mechatronics and electronics, cannot for this reason fully realise their growth and employment potential.

Objective

The objective of this programme component is to bring the training and consulting capacities of the Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP) in Bophal (federal state of Madhya Pradesh), and of the Centres for Electronic Test Engineering (CETE) in Pune (federal state of Maharashtra) and Noida (federal state of Uttar Pradesh) into line with the needs of their industrial clients. In this way the companies can increase their competitiveness. Individuals with training have better employment opportunities. A contribution is also made to structural poverty reduction in the regions.

Approach

The project advises the technology centres in analysing the training and consulting needs of local and regional SMEs in the respective technology fields and, based on this, in the development of courses and services meeting market needs.
