Cooperation
International networking is one of the main focuses of the GTZ ecosan program. We cooperate closely with other organisations active in the promotion and development of ecological sanitation. International ecosan programmes Close ties exist particularly with the EcoSanRes (Ecological Sanitation Research) programme financed by the Swedish government (SEI), the ISSUE (Integrated Support for Sustainable Urban Envorinment) programme financed by the Dutch government, the EcoSan Club in Austria and with partners in Norway. International organisations with ecosan activities The increasing interest in ecological concepts has lead many other international organisations to start ecosan activities and to cooperate on various levels with GTZ, including the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), World Bank's Water and Sanitation Program (WSP), UNESCO, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Water Association (IWA), the European Union (EU) and more.
German companies working in the water and sanitation sector have started to recognise ecological sanitation as an emerging market for technology, service delivery and consulting. The private sector in developing countries, both formal and informal, has a crucial role in the establishment of management structures for ecosan systems. Cooperation with the private sector is therefore an important part of GTZ's strategy to support the development and dissemination of ecological sanitation concepts. National ecosan programmes and networks The GTZ ecosan project also cooperates with national programmes, networks, working groups and other initiatives in many countries, for example with the German Water Association (DWA), the Innovative Ecological Sanitation Network India (IESNI), the Philippine Ecosan Network (PEN) and more. Cooperation on project levelFor the implementation of pilot and demonstration projects, the GTZ ecosan program cooperates with a wide range of partners:
Cooperation with education and research institutionsTo disseminate the knowledge about ecosan, GTZ ecosan program cooperates with teaching institutions from around the world. SuSanA (Sustainable Sanitation Alliance)Our main cooperation partners are the SuSanA members. We share our knowledge in various working groups. |
