Day 1

Challenges and Perspectives for Scaling up Action

  • The Political Challenge: How to put sanitation on top of the political agenda?
  • The Institutional Challenge: How to improve cooperation between institutions in different sectors?
  • The Financial Challenge: Appropriate strategies for financing investment and ensuring the sustainable operation of sanitation systems. Awareness raising and marketing strategies.

Day 2

Accelerating Access for Sustainable Sanitation
– Initiatives

  • Awareness raising and marketing strategies to multiply demand.
  • Technology, Costs, Capacity Development for upscaling coverage.
  • Setting an appropriate framework for upscaling access to sustainable sanitation in unplanned settlements.

A wide range of sub-topics and initiatives for scaling up and accelerating action on sustainable sanitation was presented by key players from both regional and international levels and discussed in the context of the key topics, including:

  • Pro-poor orientation on policy and implementation levels,
  • Regulation and supervision,
  • Social marketing concepts,
  • Roll out of sustainable concepts,
  • Involvement of the private sector, etc.
