Consultancy for adaptation to climate change

Dam failure. © GIZ 2004.

Our consultancy services relating to the planning and implementation of concrete adaptation measures help to boost the adaptive capacity of developing countries and thus minimise the vulnerability of affected and endangered population groups.

Our core services comprise activities at the strategic and operational levels:

Developing national adaptation strategies

  • Identifying critical sectors for adaptation measures
  • Integrating adaptation components into national sustainability programmes and poverty reduction strategies.

Integrating adaptation components
Concrete adaptation measures can be integrated into existing or planned international cooperation projects and programmes in the following sectors:

  • Agriculture / land use
  • Coastal protection
  • Disaster risk management
  • Water
  • Forestry
  • Regional planning / regional development
  • Nature conservation / biodiversity
  • Desertification control.

Our strengths – Your benefit

The global macroeconomic damage caused by natural disasters is estimated to total approx. US$ 65 billion each year. Well over two-thirds of these events occur in developing countries.

GIZ has many years of experience with the political, economic and social structures of partner countries and with the affected target groups. Moreover, we have proven know-how in the sectors particularly affected by climate change, such as natural resource management, water management, disaster mitigation, and emergency and refugee aid.
