Climate policy advisory services

The Climate Protection Programme advises the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Environment Ministry (BMU) on the relevant international negotiations. This consultancy naturally focuses upon issues of relevance to developing countries: especially the transfer of environmentally sound and climate-friendly technologies, the practical relevance of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and questions of adaptation to climate change in particularly affected countries. As a result, the practical experience gathered in country-oriented development cooperation measures is transported directly into international climate negotiations – through this feedback we contribute to shaping global structural policy.

The Climate Protection Programme provides substantial input to the international exchange on cutting-edge technological and scientific research findings and practical experience of relevance to climate protection in industrialised and developing countries. Acting in concert with our partners, we present best-practice projects at conferences and thematically relevant events.

Furthermore, the Climate Protection Programme cooperates with the secretariat of the Climate Change Convention, notably on issues of technology transfer, and also contributes its expertise in all sectors to the Global Environment Facility (GEF). In addition, we support supraregional activities such as international workshops on the CDM or on adaptation to climate change.
