For more than 15 years the GIZ has been advising governments, municipalities, associations and the private sector on various matters pertaining to energy efficiency, such as:

• developing sector strategies
• developing policies for the promotion of energy efficiency
• devising and formulating programmes and projects
• outlining and implementing demand-side management (DSM) programmes
• mobilising private sector participation.

We promote private institutions by:

• providing measurement equipment, including the appropriate software
• conducting staff training
• developing (market-based) energy service structures
• creating awareness-raising and promotional campaigns
• networking with banks, consultants, suppliers, universities.

We support government institutions by:

• planning and implementing public support programmes to increase energy efficiency
• developing sector-specific energy saving strategies
• providing advisory services to decision makers.

We support the transfer of know-how by:

• establishing energy information management systems
• setting up contacts with German and international enterprises and institutions
• implementing demonstration projects.

Our package for training and capacity building includes:

• energy management
• economic appraisal methods
• optimisation of energy systems and process engineering facilities
• methodological and practical approaches to energy assessment.
