Africa

At the beginning of 2008 only 467 MW of wind generating capacity was installed in Africa (the global figure was 93,900 MW). These wind turbines are primarily located in the northern coastal regions. For the most part, precise information about wind potential is barely available for the rest of the continent. Any existing wind data often consists of measurement results from meteorological stations, which at the very best can serve only as a rough indicator of wind potential.

Ongoing TERNA country projects are being implemented in Senegal and Ethiopia. Other country projects in Cape Verde, Mali, Morocco and Namibia have already been completed.

Further information on the continuing and completed country projects supported by GIZ in Africa is available via the menu on the left.
