ProjectsBetween 1997 and 2009, TERNA supported ten partner countries in assessing and utilising their wind energy potential and improving energy policy framework conditions. During this period, wind measurements were carried out at 24 locations in eleven countries. If the measured wind speeds were high enough – which was the case at eleven locations in seven countries – feasibility studies were conducted. In many cases, this provided the basis for positive investment decisions. By the end of 2009, wind farms with an installed capacity of 80 MW had been established at TERNA locations in Colombia, Bangladesh and Morocco. The construction of a 120 MW wind farm has been commissioned in Ethiopia, and more than 1,000 MW is being developed in other countries. In China and South Africa, TERNA provided advisory services which helped improve the framework conditions for renewable energy. We assisted in drafting laws to promote renewable energy, in establishing the necessary institutions, and we provided support with the integration of wind energy into the grid. Initial and further training measures were essential elements of all projects. The TERNA programme operated in the following regions:
