What we offer
Environmental policy and institutional development
We help to ensure that environmental policy gains the political priority it needs. We offer proven strategies in order to resolve environmental problems in society.
Environmentally oriented sector policies
We provide advice on how to integrate environmental themes within a broad range of sector policies (e.g. energy, transport, water, waste). These activities centre on decision-making, planning and implementation processes for environmentally oriented sector strategies.
Implementing international environmental regimes
We advise national governments on the implementation of international environmental agreements, such as those on the conservation of biological diversity or the protection of the ozone layer.
Transboundary resource management
We deliver solutions tailored to, for example, Africa’s tropical rain forests or strengthening regional environmental policy in Latin America’s MERCOSUR countries. We work to improve national and international framework conditions, that - starting at policy level - safeguard the ecological sustainability of environmental resources used by several states.
Financing environmental protection
We advise on financing environmental protection and ways to use market-based instruments to steer the way the natural environment is used. This is the starting point of the 'EcoFinance – natural resource governance' and 'Environmental standards and labelling' products, which align ecological goals with economic and social necessities (e.g. through timber certification).
Sustainable urban development
We advise on ways to implement sustainable urban development measures and to establish and optimise municipal environmental services such as solid waste management, sustainable production and consumption, eco-industrial parks and UrbanEco.
What you can achieve with us
Sustainable development has now become firmly established on the international agenda. Nonetheless, environmental policy concerns continue to be neglected in many countries. A successful environmental policy safeguards the natural resource base that sustains human existence. It serves long-term development goals – poverty reduction, basic human rights, crisis prevention and sustainable development. The implementation of environmental policy measures improves people's living conditions and ensures the ecological sustainability of development and transition processes.
