Bolivia: Implementation of national regulations for the access to genetic resources
This program aims to support ministries and their subordinate authorities, as well as non-governmental organisations, in the implementation of rules to govern the access to genetic resources. Responsibility for the project lies with the Direccion General de Biodiversidad, its focus is on biological prospection and the creation of a database on the country's genetic resources and experts.

Brazil: Establishing the nature reserve 'Archipelago de Ilha Grande' at the upper Paraná
In the context of establishing and protecting the nature reserve Archipélago de Ilha Grande, the project supports environmental protection planning and the promotion of sustainability in several forms of cultivation (e.g. fishery, natural resources, tourism). The project focuses on institution building, land use planning and the setting-up of alternative sources of energy.

Nicaragua: Strengthening the capacity of indigenous decision-makers for the implemention of the CBD in Central America
Supported by GTZ, the autonomous University URACCAN in Nicaragua developed a training course for indigenous decision-makers on CBD and GEF and developing specific measures for their implementation in local communities. The training course was based on a study on establishing indigenous organisations and their agenda in the national political arenas of Central America.
