International organizations and institutions
UNEP The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is an advocate, educator, catalyst and facilitator, promoting the wise use of the planet’s natural assets for sustainable development. UNEP's mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. GIZ Proklima cooperates with UNEP on a variety of projects within and outside the Montreal Protocol. One example for cooperation with UNEP (which includes also other organizations) is “The SolarChill Vaccine Cooler and Refrigerator Project”. UNIDO The United Nations Industrial Development Organization is mandated to promote industrial development and international industrial cooperation. GIZ Proklima cooperates with UNIDO on a variety of projects. One example for cooperation with UNIDO (which includes also other organizations) is the “Strategic demonstration project for accelerated conversion of CFC chillers in five African countries (AFROC)”. UNDP UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. GIZ Proklima cooperates with UNDP on a variety of projects. One example for cooperation with UNDP (which includes also other organizations) is the “National CFC phase-out” project in Brazil. The World Bank The World Bank is a group of five international organizations providing financial and technical assistance to developing countries for the purposes of economic development and eliminating poverty. GIZ Proklima cooperates with the World Bank on a variety of projects. One example for cooperation with the World Bank (which includes also other organizations) is the project “CTC phase-out for the consumption and production sectors” in India. Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol The MLF was established in 1990 to assist developing countries meet their Montreal Protocol commitments. Ozone Secretariat The Ozone Secretariat was established to assist the Parties to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Technology and Economic Assessment Panel of the Montreal Protocol (TEAP) TEAP provides technical information related to environment friendly technologies, which can be employed to substitute Ozone Depleting Substances. United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) The UNFCCC was adopted in 1992 and provides an overall framework for intergovernmental efforts to tackle the challenges posed by climate change. Global Environment Facility (GEF) GEF is a financial organization that provides grants to developing countries for projects that benefit the global environment and promote sustainable livelihoods in local communities. |
