GTZ Proklima has implemented over 150 projects in almost 40 countries since 1996, with an overall volume of close to US$ 30 million. It is thus the biggest bilateral programme to be associated with the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.
Protecting the ozone layer helps minimise reductions in agricultural yields, as well as safeguarding human health. Keeping the ozone layer intact represents an important contribution to combating poverty, upholding the right to freedom from bodily harm and guaranteeing the right to food (see the discussion on methyl bromide under ‘Examples of projects’ below).
