Reconstruction and peaceSupporting Peace and Justice Social change often implies conflicts of interest, some of which may escalate into violence. We support processes and mechanisms that allow for the resolution of conflicts in a non-violent, democratic and just way. This is to ensure that people have both equal access to resources and equal opportunities to articulate their interests. In countries like Colombia and Sri Lanka, we try to enhance participation and integration. For this reason, we support non-governmental organisations as well as local and regional administrations. We also acknowledge and promote the potential of cultural networks in enhancing dialogue among conflicting parties and the rule of law as an important principle that helps dealing with past injustice. Reconstructing societies Disasters and violent conflicts destroy political institutions, social networks and infrastructure. People and communities are threatened in their very existence. In order to set the foundation for sustainable political and socio-economic development, we link short-term emergency aid with food assistance and comprehensive reconstruction. This involves restoring social and economic infrastructure, conducting measures in violence and crisis prevention, as well as supporting the (re)integration of marginalised groups of a society.
