A broad scope: German institutions working with the private sector to control HIVTwo other agencies of German Development Cooperation (both now are part of GIZ), the German Development Service (Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst, DED) and the International Training and Development Corporation (Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung GmbH, InWEnt), have designed programs to support HIV/AIDS workplace interventions. Their joint program entitled AWISA (AIDS Workplace Programs in Southern Africa) is directed towards small and medium-sized companies with less than 100 employees. In contrast, the direct support of GIZ for private businesses has been designed for medium and large enterprises that have the financial capacity for comprehensive interventions including prevention and treatment. Part of the AWISA program is an educational manual for the training of small-scale entrepreneurs, called “Beyond the Balance Sheet.” GIZ/ACCA and AWISA are already cooperating in Zambia, with future cooperation planned in Namibia, Tanzania and Mozambique. As the services in the field of HIV/AIDS workplace interventions by AWISA and GIZ are complementary, further opportunities to cooperate will arise from GIZ's support of business associations, since these associations and coalitions include all types of businesses: large, medium and small-scale ones. |
