Government
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)All GIZ cooperation with the business sector to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic are funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The basic tool used by the German government in this involvement is the concept of public private partnerships (PPP), which the Ministry has supported since 1999. An essential characteristic of PPP is the aspect of co-financing. The German government brings in technical expertise through GIZ advisors as well as certain in-kind contributions; the private sector, on the other hand, contributes financing, personnel and logistics to the running costs of such workplace interventions. German engagement in HIV/AIDS workplace programs is focused on Sub-Saharan Africa, since prevalence rates there have reached a global peak. However, workplace interventions are becoming increasingly important in eastern European and Asian countries as well. With respect to the ACCA regional project, German Development Cooperation is increasingly concentrating on capacity building among business interest groups such as industrial associations and chambers of commerce. The objective is to establish a support structure and a means of service delivery for companies willing to address HIV/AIDS issues For further information on the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). |
