Advisory Service on Information and Communication Technologies

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is implementing the advisory project Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D).  It supports BMZ in formulation and design of new development strategies and activities.

• We promote the use of ICTs as a development driver. This includes their use to promote economic development in rural areas and to support decentralisation, as well as to widen access to knowledge. Central to our approach is the development of capacities and skills to develop, localise, use and maintain ICTs.

• We support partner countries in sub-Saharan Africa in reforming their ICT regulatory frameworks.

• We evaluate ICT development projects, identify and develop sustainable approaches, strategies and good practices of ICT4D and support our partners by assessing their individual ICT needs and matching them with appropriate solutions or IT service providers. We support networking and development partnerships and supply contacts to non-governmental organisations and academic institutions.
