Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)Information- and Communication Technologies (ICT) have an increasing impact on our development work. ICTs have become an indispensable tool not only in project planning and managing, they can also help to reach development goals. In his speech on the occasion of the founding of the UN ICT Task Force in November 2001, Kofi Annan highlighted the development-policy potential of ICTs:
With this in mind, GIZ employs ICTs in German Development Cooperation as a tool to enhance the effectiveness of its activities. Whether ICTs are used for optimising working procedures, for communication and networking or for providing information quickly and at low cost –nowadays they have a crucial role to play in many projects. GIZ has many years of experience both in the use of ICTs in Development Cooperation and in cooperation with technology-oriented partners from the private sector. Since 2000, GIZ (former GTZ) has implemented 150 projects with an ICT focus – of which around 40 have been in collaboration with the private sector.
