Since the International Year of Ecotourism 2002, GIZ (former GTZ) has attended each annual Reisepavillon - Market Place for Alternative Travel.

Up to 2005, GIZ (former GTZ) organised the Tourism Forum International at the Reisepavillon in Hanover. The aim was to call attention to sustainable development by tourism.  Small and medium-sized tourism enterprises from transition and developing countries were invited to present themselves in a separate area and to participate in training events (marketing workshop) and a conference. The conference was open to the public and addressed a number of questions in the context of "development through tourism".
