GIZ, together with its partners, has trialled and evaluated a variety of approaches to improve the prevention, treatment and mitigation of the effects of HIV/AIDS. Results of the advisory and networking activities undertaken by GIZ as part of its supraregional AIDS project are presented below, with a focus on four areas: 

• advisory services to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), 
• documenting experience, 
• university and hospital partnerships,
• HIV/AIDS – a cross-cutting issue (mainstreaming).
