HIV projects
GTZ is active in more than 40 countries in the field of combating HIV. Besides specific HIV programmes GTZ encourages the integration of HIV-related problems in relevant areas. Regional HIV programmes The German Technical Cooperation supports the installation and improvement of national AIDS control programmes in the partner countries. Latin America / The Caribbean Subregional South-South Cooperation HIV/AIDS Multi-sectoral fight against HIVGTZ implements programmes that follow a sector-specific HIV approach in more than 15 countries, among them Botswana, Chad, Guinea, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Brazil and Bangladesh.

Tackling HIV in the health sectorGTZ supports the fight against HIV in the form of health projects in India, Nepal and Mongolia and also in Peru, Honduras and Morocco. Integrated HIV components within health projects exist in several African countries including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Madagascar, Rwanda and Tanzania. In Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda GTZ implemented a project to reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV including treatment for infected family members.
HIV prevention programmes for specific groupsGTZ supports prevention programmes aimed at the general public, adolescents and specific target groups such as truck drivers, intravenous drug users, and sex workers and their clients in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

AIDS workplace programmes in the private and public sector
GTZ advises private sector companies, business associations and public clients in several countries including Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo on introducing and implementing AIDS workplace programmes.
Advisory services to institutions, decision-makers and cooperation partners
On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), GTZ advises institutions and decision-makers in German development cooperation and cooperation partners in developing countries on the response to AIDS.
Technical support in the field of global financing
In more than 40 partner countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe GTZ provides assistance to support them in applying for and using funds from the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) and other financing mechanisms.
