Services

Our competency, based on years of good working relations with partner organisations and partner countries, is applied primarily to the following eight interrelated areas of action:

  • The drafting of comprehensive conflict analyses and the implementation of conflict-related impact monitoring in the education sector
  • The designing of crisis-sensitive education systems through promotion of an inclusive educational policy, one that ensures access to education for all ethnic, religious and cultural groups within the population, makes basic education available to disadvantaged children and youth – particularly child soldiers, displaced persons and refugees – and takes due account of social diversity and equality
  • Measures for violence prevention and conflict transformation in educational work, both in-school and out-of-school: introduction of peaceful conflict resolution strategies into schools and teacher training, dismantling of any stereotypes, prejudice and hostility contained in course outlines and textbooks
  • Integration of peace education and education in human rights, values and democracy into school curricula and teacher training and into the development of teaching materials (e.g. textbooks and teachers’ manuals); training and upgrading of teachers employed in the schools and of multipliers doing out-of-school educational work

Pupils learning

  • Promotion of intercultural skills through multilingual instruction and intercultural encounter/exchange programmes
  • Community-oriented school development through the promotion of measures for constructive conflict transformation and violence prevention, the organisation of schools as safe places to learn, the establishment of school-affiliated socio-psychological counselling services, giving pupils and parents a voice in educational matters and ensuring their participation, promotion of a democratic learning culture that is consistent with social diversity and equality
  • Strengthening of the civil society through fund-supported micro-measures promoting basic education, by means of consolidation into programmes, comprehensive knowledge management and quality assurance
  • Promotion of non-formal basic education in combination with income-generating, prevocational measures for the reintegration of disadvantaged children and young people in post-conflict situations.

Our services include preparation of, support for, and evaluation of the implementation of situation-specific, individual clusters of measures. These services are developed in light of the particular political, geographical and socio-cultural conditions of a given partner country. Ideally, measures are employed on all levels of intervention (target groups, local and regional administrations, central government).
