UNESCO: Education in Emergency, Crisis and Reconstruction
Many states are in a fragile situation and at risk of future possible conflict. Children in particular are victims of such conflicts, with schools serving as military targets, children recruited as combatants and education systems partially or completely disrupted. UNESCO deals with the consequences of such situations, as well as with the disruption of education caused by natural disasters.

The World Education Forum (Dakar, Senegal, April 2000) was the first and most important event in education at the dawn of the new century. By adopting the Dakar Framework for Action, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to achieving Education for All by the year 2015. Two of the six EFA-goals entered into the Millennium Development Goals.
