What we have achieved

We have provided flanking support for international forest-related processes at national and international levels from the outset. As a result we are well networked and can draw quickly and efficiently on information and lessons learned, which we then process and disseminate. This has earned the advisory project a reputation as a competent and neutral partner.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) uses our practical experience and our strategic international networking to better position and raise the profile of German international forest policy. Examples are:

  • With our support, Germany, together with Australia, Brazil, France, Canada, Iran, Malaysia and Nigeria organised an 8-Country Initiative to develop the work programme of the United Nations Forum on Forests.
  • Within the G8 Forest Action Programme, Germany was in charge of national forest programmes. Here, we were able to contribute to strategic planning and to make use of our field experience in partner countries.
  • We played a major role in the development of the "Code of Conduct for Forest Sector Development Cooperation of the European Commission and the European Union Member States".
