Development-oriented Emergency Aid (DEA)

Crises, Conflicts and Disasters are threatening the livelihood of people worldwide. The population of developing countries is severly affected in particular. Development-oriented Emergency Aid (DEA) intervenes before, during and after conflicts or disasters. Therefore DEA concentrates on target groups whose prospects of survival are threatened or highly endangered by these exceptional circumstances. DEA aims to lessen the endangerment whenever possible and to alleviate the impacts.

Planting, masonry, eating children - projects of development-oriented emergency aid

Development-oriented Emergency Aid follows a dualistic approach: Those people who have been affected by conflicts or disasters should recieve immediate and effective relief. Furthermore DEA implements the basic structures for sustainable development after the acute crisis. Key competences of DEA are:

  • Emergency Aid, Food Aid, Refugee Aid
  • Crisis-preventive Reconstruction
  • Disaster Risk Management

DEA is an integrated component of the German development cooperation and works therefore with the same quality standards, which means the work of DEA is orientated on target groups and self-help activities.
