Agenda 21, Chapter 19

Agenda 21’s principles of chemical safety

Chapter 19 of Agenda 21, which was resolved by heads of state and government in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, outlines the principles for internationally effective chemical safety and sound chemicals management. Chapter 19 contains goals for the environmentally sound handling of toxic chemicals and calls for measures to prevent illegal international trafficking in toxic and hazardous products.
